There are so many things going on in the news, but chances are good that the Olympics is taking up the majority of your attention. Check out these two stories that you may have missed.

• Australian breast cancer survivor posts naked photos of herself on Facebook (NSFW).

On her Facebook account, Beth Whaanga posted photos of herself to show what cancer can do to your body, to raise awareness of breast cancer and to offer advice on how to check yourself.

“The old and the young, age does not matter, self examination is vital. It can happen to you.”

Facebook has responded and has explained that they would not take down the photos.

Marina and the Diamonds Calls Out Creeps in the Media

Marina and the Diamonds creates an amazing Twitter rant calling out the music and film industry and certain celebrities.

Yesterday, Marina Diamandis, better known as Marina and the Diamonds, wrote these great tweets. The rant began with this tweet:

  And from there, she called out people like Terry Richardson, Woody Allen and R. Kelly. All of these people have been in the news for their disgusting photography (Richardson) and for sexual assault (all of them), but their “art” takes precedence over all else.

Racism Is Still Going On Strong

Buzzfeed creates a list of racist and ridiculous tweets about the winner of the Miss America pageant.

Nina Davuluri, from Fayetteville, New York, was crowned Miss America 2013 on Sept. 15. She is the first Indian American winner and apparently people do not care or realize that she is in fact an American.

• Canadian universities are in the news due to ‘pro-rape’ chants.
  
  According to a student who was live-tweeting during this, the chant goes as follows:

  Y-O-U-N-G at UBC, we like ’em young, Y is for your sister, O is for oh so tight, U is for underage, N is for no consent, G is for go to jail.

• Kevin Hart beats a dead horse with his “comedic” stab at women and sports.
  

  Today is “NATIONAL SHUT THE HELL UP DAY FOR WOMEN” ……Ladies u r not allowed to talk to your man while football is on!!! RT THIS ASAP

  The responses are sane at least and quite funny.

• “Bro” culture in the military is damaging to all those involved, especially women who become easy targets to harassment.
• New app: ‘Titstare‘ at Techcrunch. “Women in tech deserve better.” It is pretty pathetic when a group who created the “Titstare” app which makes it easier to stare at breasts (as I’m sure you can tell from the name) are stood up by a 9-year-old maturity-wise. This ridiculous app is just a taste of what sexual harassment women in the field deal with.
  

  And yet the industry runs on privilege, with sexist and juvenile behaviour based on gender stereotypes being routinely displayed.

  What message does this send to the men, women and children who attended the event? Like Alexandra, the nine year old girl who presented her own app and was able to win over an audience with behaviour more mature than others?

  This article goes into detail about the event as well as what it is like for women in the field. The article is definitely worth a read.
