Pakistani teenager Aitzaz Hasan, 15, is being hailed a hero after he was killed Monday when he tackled a suicide bomber who was targeting his school.
Aitzaz Hasan spotted a suspicious man outside of his school. Instead of cowering in fear as most people would have done, Aitzaz approached the man despite pleas from fellow students to stop. After confronting the bomber, the bomb was detonated, killing the bomber and Aitzaz.
People all over the world and speaking his praises and many call for him to receive the highest honor awarded to those who sacrifice their life for the country in the military.
What happened during the confrontation
This took place in Ibrahimzai, which is a Shia-dominated area of Hangu. It is reported that nearly 2,000 students were there during that time.
“My cousin sacrificed his life saving his school and hundreds of students and school fellows,” his cousin Mudassar Hassan Bangish told the BBC’s Aleem Maqbool.
“The suicide bomber wanted to destroy the school and school students. It was my cousin who stopped him from this…destruction.”
Before the confrontation, Aitzaz said, according to his cousin, “I’m going to stop him. He is going to school to kill my friends.”
Bangish also described his cousin as a “brave” and good student.
His family has spoken to Pakistan’s Express Tribune newspaper about the actions of Aitzaz.
“My son made his mother cry, but saved hundreds of mothers from crying for their children,” Mujahid Ali, Aitzaz’s father said.
