Campus Pride, an organization dedicated to making campus life safer for LGBT community, released its annual list of safest universities and colleges.
The list made by Campus Pride is in alphabetical order, rather than ranked. “Campus Pride’s Index is the only one of its kind,” said Campus Pride Executive Director Shane Windmeyer. “Unlike other commercially-driven rankings, our ratings are done for and by LGBT people and set in a foundation of solid research practice.”
The factors included in the ranking are:
- LGBT Policy Inclusion
- LGBT Support and Institutional Commitment
- LGBT Academic Life
- LGBT Student Life
- LGBT Housing
- LGBT Campus Safety
- LGBT Couseling and Health
- LGBT Recruitment and Retention Efforts
The Campus Pride organization has encouraged and aided colleges and universities on policy changes. In the past five years, Campus Pride has help give vast amounts of information in regards to LGBT campus life, transgender issues, health and well-being and recruitment/retention efforts.
I was very happy to see that my home state, Minnesota, has four colleges on the list. Carleton College, University of Minnesota- Duluth, Macalaster College and University of Minnesota- Twin Cities are all on the list.
